Purpose in the Retail sector roundtable

Past
August 21, 2020

We’re living in an age where there’s political uncertainty, consumer cynicism, power of social media and the need for more transparency. And ultimately – a crisis in trust. A significant challenge. So there’s a general acceptance that companies need to become more purposeful. The challenge is how to do this authentically and successfully?

We were delighted to welcome three key guests to discuss this with us, with a focus on the financial and professional services sector – Emma Cox, Head of Purpose at PwC, Juliet Silvester, Head of Responsible Business at Fujitsu, and Claire Barraclough, Group Corporate Responsibility at Aviva, also working with the World Benchmarking Alliance.

Key headlines included how:

  • businesses need to develop both financial and social goals
  • mindsets in the financial sector need to be challenged, to see business as a force for good, creating profitable solutions for society
  • big picture thinking is required
  • data and analytics are important to build the business case for purpose and enable full integration
  • Purpose can’t feel hollow. It genuinely needs to build trust in society and solve important problems, creating long term sustainable growth for both business and society
