‘Kwesi’s Questions’ to Raj Nair

August 31, 2022

I’m the Digital Marketing and Social Media Assistant here at Verity London. I’ve done a lot of things, but I’ve never worked in the responsible business space before, so I decided to take a few of my colleagues aside to get a better grip of where their roles fit into this industry. In this series I take a peek behind their monitors, get a look at what their day-to-day truly looks like, and find out how they help our clients.

My time in responsible business is really opening my eyes to how important the relationship between client and agency can be. Making sure everything is done to the client’s expectations, helping solve our client’s challenges in real time, and generally working to everything runs smoothly – it’s all the things that hold a project together. I sat down with Rajeshwari (Raj) Nair, Senior Account Director here at Verity London, to talk about her background, how to run a successful campaign, and what she does to help.

Can you tell us a bit about your background as a Senior Account Director before coming to Verity London?

I’ve been fortunate to have worked at big agencies like JWT, Publicis, Saatchi & Saatchi and Ogilvy across some of their flagship global brands like Sunsilk, Dove, h&s, L’Oreal, Kelloggs, Axe and Philips.

Some of the campaigns I worked on also won multiple awards which was gratifying and motivated me to always deliver best in class work. As an account lead, I quickly learnt the importance of building excellent relationships (both internally and externally with clients) and becoming a true partner every step of the way.

You worked in Advertising for over a decade before Verity London – What drew you to working in the responsible business space?

Having worked on several beauty brands and consumer durables, it was time to shift the gears to do something more purposeful and meaningful.

I have garnered extremely rich and varied experience in communications, having led strategic, multichannel, multi market campaigns globally and I wanted to apply those learnings to the growing responsible business space.

What kind of client challenges do you find yourself solving in your day-to-day?

Each client is different and the various kinds of work throw up a variety of tasks for me. A few of our clients have already embraced and embarked upon their responsible business / sustainability journey and have specific strategic and communication needs to be met, such as content creation, whilst others seek our advice to help them identify & define their responsible business needs and areas of focus.

Some have strategic challenges, and some want help communicating them with their employees. Regardless at what stage of the journey they are, each challenge is unique, and we offer customised solutions.

What would you say is the most important factor in a client’s project being successful?

I think it is a combination of several factors. A thorough understanding of the client or brand challenge, setting out clear objectives, having clarity on expected outcomes and defining measurable results helps deliver projects successfully. If I had to choose one factor, would say it is seamless collaboration.

What’s your favourite type of project to work on?

I love to work on projects that allow me to be innovative and creative in my approach and thinking. A bonus would be if I could do this for a brand or company that has a higher order purpose and stands for something meaningful in people’s lives.
